Project snapshot

Company: Get More Math

Role: Lead UX Designer and initial Project Manager

Team: Core product team, CEO, training/support subject matter experts, and math content specialists.

Scope: One of the product team’s primary objectives for the year.

Problem and objectives

Administrators needed to understand whether Get More Math positively affected standardized assessment scores. Teachers needed to identify struggling students and groups needing instruction on the same standard. School and district administrators needed grade-level performance views across teachers, students, and schools.

Business objectives included administrator adoption after piloting, Texas expansion, retention of large-district contracts, and beta access for a subset of Texas users. These are objectives, not reported outcomes.

Assumptions and risks

The legacy system lacked sufficient aggregation performance and a proper authorization framework. The team explored Launch Darkly for controlling access and report variants.

Other assumptions concerned value outside standards-heavy states, accurate/non-misleading proficiency scores from existing data, a cross-state information architecture, meaningful aggregation from student to district, and differentiation through unique proficiency data.

Research and approach

  • The systems architect led feasibility prototypes; the team selected a new Quarkus reporting service.
  • Executive, sales, and marketing research supported reporting beyond Texas; research also examined competing data-gathering workflows.
  • I led Design Studio workshops on calculating per-standard, per-student proficiency. Proposed solutions identified a Weighted Quadratic Mean formula.
  • Compared Texas standards organization with other states.
  • Used high-fidelity prototype usability tests and training/support feedback to iterate on data presentation.

Design and implementation direction

Established a hierarchy from district information down to individual skills, sketched individual views, and iterated on Student Report layouts. Proposed solutions included a new database, unified standards architecture, navigation/search, district/school/teacher/class/student reports, and Launch Darkly access controls.

Feasibility work identified an opportunity for the reporting service to eventually replace Sisense. That migration is not reported as completed.

Outcomes and limitations

Reporting launched; impact measurement was still in progress. The portfolio’s Results section states: “Gathering results now…” No measured adoption, instructional, achievement, or standardized-assessment impact is provided.
